The Human Condition
In the spring of 2025, I decided to take a class that I thought would be based on ethics and philosophy, discussing old texts. What I ended up taking was a class that discussed very real dilemmas that people, that we, go through every day. We were encouraged to think about how we moved through the world, our daily interactions with colleagues and loved ones, and to assess how we were perceived versus how we wanted to be perceived. One of the sections of the class that I found very impactful was our discussions on romantic love and friendship as I find those relationships very meaningful. We spent some time on social pressures, personal expectations, and their impact on relationships. I found those particularly insightful as I have struggled with friendships in the past and have sometimes allowed others' interpretations to sway my views when I should have listened to my gut. This class also improved my writing as Dr. Zalar insisted that we not only be direct with our opinions but also grammatically correct. Although he could be harsh at times I believe his attention to detail only benefited his students. Below I have posted the links to my papers in chronological order so that you may judge my improvement for yourselves.
