NIA STEFANOV PORTFOLIO
2022-2023
This year brought on many challenges that I am sure that many entering freshman have also experienced. I learned about what I truly care about doing in my free time and how taking care of my physical self leads to me being able to focus better on classes and have the motivation to counteract procrastination. This year I re-found my love for rock climbing and I had to learn to schedule my study times around those climbing sessions. Planning my days around my rock climbing or going to the gym gave me a schedule that I could follow throughout the day, leading me to be more productive. Since I was making a schedule for myself almost daily I made it a point to take time for myself and relaxation so that I would not get burnt out as easily, my go to activity to do so was hammocking. It is a way for me to be outside, get some fresh air, see some friends and sometimes even take a nap. I was also able to make friends through both rock climbing and hammocking which was greatly appreciated as I did not live on campus this past year and so I struggled a little with making and maintaining friendships. I also made some friendships during the CRITS honors experience. During CRITS we played a game of dnd that allowed me to expand my world view in a safe space. CRITS also allowed me to become more comfortable with my anxiety, leading me to be less self-conscious when I am anxious or worried about certain situations, since the character that I played was super anxious and would get upset over the smallest things. The connections that I made during CRITS have lasted past when the experience ended as my friends and I are continuing our game through the summer. The other experience that I did was called Study of Race and Law, and I learned a lot in this experience. About the past of America and how horrible the legal system have been to Black people, but mostly I learned that I would make a terrible lawyer and I am glad that it is not the profession I will be seeking. But I did meet some wonderful people and had two lovely professors, this experience is definitely something I would recommend to anyone wanting to broaden their horizons.
Most importantly this year I focused on my studies as well as my friendships and hobbies. I learned the important lesson of having a well balanced life and I will strive to maintain that balance through next year.
